“Grab your coat and get your hat, leave your worries on the doorstep…”
This is a song my mom use to sing when we were young. I learned from a really young age that you can choose your mood.
“What?” you say "Choose my mood?!" Yep! You choose it. It is easy to forget but good to be reminded. You have the power. (In my head I hear Arnold Schwarzenegger saying in his German accent…”you have the power”)…Anyway..
We may not control the circumstances but we do have the power to choose how we respond to this amazing, dynamic, crazy, wonderful life. You have it, I have it, the postman has it, my children have it. We get to choose our mood and just as this song encourages us to grab our stuff, leave our cares, and point ourselves in a positive direction, this is what we need to do each and every day. Cultivating the habit of an optimistic outlook.
Maybe this is a lyrical version of the bible’s “pick up your mat and walk” from John 5:8 reminding us that we can do it and it is up to us to do it. Our spouse, kids, friends, co-workers, can’t do it for us. They can add to that happiness but we have to choose to see the blessings, celebrate the possibilities, and build just like a muscle, a strong habit to live it.
Whether Jesus said it, or Frank Sanatra sang it, it is a message worth practicing and our inspirational nudge for the week. As you step off that doorstep, leave your worries behind and let yourself bask in the warmth of the good that surrounds us all.
Here at Happy Day Art Company, our goal is to create little bits of art, infused with happiness so that when you see them in your home, at work, or you give them as a gift, you are reminded that you have the power to choose the sunny side of the street and that your life is filled with possibilities. And when you give that message to someone else you are multiplying it exponentially. You see that possibility in them!!! What a GIFT!!!
When we move from "Whoa is me" to "Wow is Me!" our whole body shifts, our energy changes, and our world responds. So if we have the choice why not grab that coat and hat and at least point our feet toward the sunny side of the street. Who knows what we will find and who we will meet with that gold dust on our feet on the sunny side of the street!. Come with me!!!
